The Golden Tigers Squash the Hornets
SUMTER, Sc - In the rematch of an early season victory, the Brenau University basketball team traveled to Morris College, to face off against the Hornets on Tuesday evening.
After a sluggish start, the Golden Tigers set the tempo for the rest of the game with solid defense and fast break scoring opportunities. Back to back fast break scores by guards Brittany Wiley (Royston, GA) and Tala Black (Marietta, GA) increased the Brenau lead to double digits early in the first half.
With a 40-27 half time lead, the Golden Tigers came out even more aggressive, looking to increase their lead. A four point play by Sarah Ward (Elberton, GA) brought the lead to 18, and a Kaitlin Fleming (Mt. Airy, GA) fast break layup increased the lead to 20 points.
Brittany Wiley led all scorers with 22 points, while junior Nikki Reed chipped in with 14 points, and Tala Black scored 12 points. Leading rebounder Gabby Harvey (Lilburn, GA) chipped in 10 rebounds.
Morris College was led by Staci Holmes' 12 points.
The victory evened the Golden Tigers to 5-5 on the season, while Morris College dropped to 0-10.
Brenau travels to Mobile this weekend to face SSAC conference foes Spring Hill and the University of Mobile.
