Bulldogs Bite Golden Tigers at Home
The Brenau Golden Tigers basketball team took the floor Saturday to face the Tennessee Wesleyan Lady Bulldogs in a rematch of an earlier season contest.
Tennessee Wesleyan, ranked number 9 in the NAIA Division II preseason rankings, quickly jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes of the contest.However, the Golden Tigers, with a strong post finish by Raven Crawford (Toccoa, GA) and a three pointer by Tatiana Khudiakova (Moscow, Russia), cut the lead to four with six minutes remaining. The Golden Tigers playing strong half court defense took a four point lead late in the first half, blocking four shots- two by Khudiakova- and scoring on two more Crawford put backs. A late flurry gave the visiting Lady Bulldogs a seven point lead at the half.
The second half showed the shooting prowess of the Lady Bulldogs, connecting on 5 of 8 3 pointers, and increasing their lead to thirteen. The Golden Tigers cut the lead to eight with less than four minutes to go, but came up short at the end, losing 55-41.
The Golden Tigers were led by 13 points fromTala Black (Marietta, GA) and 11 by Raven Crawford. Tatiana Khudiakova added 7 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks.The loss dropped Brenau's record to 6-7.Tennessee Wesleyan was led by junior post Michelle Davis' 20 points.Brenau closes out the first half of their season Monday with a home contest vs. Young Harris College.
