Hawks Dominate Golden Tigers at Home

The Golden Tigers came up short in tonight's contest against the Shorter University Hawks, ranked second in the SSAC East Division and 21st nationally in the NAIA.
Brenau (8-10; SSAC 2-6) started out the game strong, trailing closely for most of the first half. Brenau was able to tie the game with 7 minutes to go in the first period, but the Hawks (12-4; SSAC 5-2) steadily built their lead to head into the halftime ahead by ten by a score of 21-31. The Golden Tigers trailed for the remainder of the contest, coming up short and finishing by the score of 51-67.Neither teams shot the ball particularly well; Shorter's 39% from the field edged out Brenau's 36%. In a rare defeat on the boards, the Hawks also out-rebounded the Tigers 37-35. Leading in double figures for Shorter were Lindsay Crawford with 15 points, Robyn Foster with 13, and Kelli Ellison with 11. The Golden Tigers were led by sophomore point guard Brittney Wiley with 15. Junior Gabby Harvey, ranked number 7 nationally in rebounds per game, recorded another double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Nikki Reed also turned in another solid performance with 10 points and 8 rebounds, while sophomore Tatiana Khudiakova had her season-high in blocked shots with 4.
Brenau will next face Truett-McConnell College at home at 2:00 pm this Saturday in another crucial SSAC match-up.
