Golden Tigers Victorious Over Barons
February 3, 2012
The Golden Tigers came out in fine form tonight against conference opponent Brewton Parker, picking up a huge win by the final score of 75-65. Facing a must-win situation, Brenau came ready to play and held nothing back in the opening 5 minutes of action. Brenau (10-13; SSAC 4-9) started the game going on a 16-2 run in the first 3 minutes of play. The Barons (11-10; SSAC 6-6) hung around, however, eventually cutting the Tiger's lead to only 4 points midway through the second half.
Stellar team shooting for Brenau at 53% with 83% free throws allowed the Tigers to pull away at the end and never look back. Brenau out-rebounded the Barons 36-33 and held their opponent to just 37% from the field.
Leading all scorers tonight was junior Gabby Harvey, turning in a monstrous double-double performance with 23 points on 8-9 shooting, 15 rebounds, and 2 assists. Sophomore point guard Brittney Wiley had another stellar game with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Raven Crawford chipped in 14 points on 4-7 from the field. Brewton Parker was led by Andreia Hoskins with 12 points.
Brenau next travels to Young Harris for a 2:00 pm matchup this Saturday. The non-conference game against the Mountain Lions is the second meeting of the two teams this year. The Golden Tigers were victorious in the first meeting and the loss for Young Harris was only one of three they've sustained on the season. Young Harris brings an overall record of 17-3 into the game.
