Mountain Lions Maul Tigers
February 5, 2012
The Golden Tigers were defeated Saturday by the Young Harris Mountain Lions 42-78. Young Harris, avenging an earlier loss to Brenau, improved to 18-3 while the Tigers fell to 10-14 (SSAC 4-9).
The Golden Tigers were down by 10 at the halftime with a score of 24-34, but the Mountain Lions came charging out of the half with a 26-6 run in the first ten minutes. After that point, the closest Brenau would get was 28 points before Young Harris pushed their lead to as many as 38 late in the game.
The Golden Tigers were out-rebounded by the Lions 30-43, while Young Harris' defense stifled the Tigers to just 32% from the floor. 29 turnovers to YHC's 19 were also problematic for Brenau. Leading all scorers was Ladondra Johnson with 19 points and 9 rebounds and Lauren Smith with 10 points and 7 steals. Brenau's lone double-figure scorer was Brittney Wiley with 12 points. Nikki Reed and Amanda Parker led the rebounding effort with 5 each, while Olivia Williams blocked 2 shots.
Brenau returns to action Thursday night to face SSAC opponent Southern Polytech in Marietta at 6:00 pm. SPSU currently has a 4-17 overall record and is 3-9 in the SSAC.
