Brenau Basketball Defeats Martin Methodist College

In the second game of the Bethel Rotary Classic, the Brenau Golden Tigers basketball team defeated Martin Methodist College 66-64 to claim their second win of the season.
From the opening tip, the game stayed close, with no team leading by more than four points. Freshman Claire Zimmerman (Woodstock, Ga.), grabbed an offensive rebound and put back to keep the score close, while two free throws by junior Anela Durmic (Grayson, Ga.) pulled the game to within one point at the half.
In the second half, the Golden Tigers picked up the pace. A three-pointer by Tala Black (Marietta, Ga.) tied the game at 51-51 and two buckets by freshman Anikee Combee (Jonesboro, Ga.) gave Brenau the lead for the remainder of the game.
Head Basketball Coach Kris Stewart commented on the game: "This was a good team win. We had several players step up and contribute. We were a little fatigued from our tough game with Bethel University the previous night, but I felt like we played very hard. I was pleased with our defense, particularly in holding their leading scorer to seven points below her average and allowing a high scoring team to 16 points below their average."
Brenau's balanced attack was led by senior Gabby Harvey's (Lilburn, GA) 13 points and nine rebounds. Black led all scorers with a season high 14 points. Junior Raven Crawford (Toccoa, GA) contributed another solid outing with 11 Senior Nikki Reed (Atlanta, GA) had nine points and seven rebounds, while Combee contributed eight points and seven rebounds.
The Golden Tigers open conference play next weekend, traveling to Spring Hill College and the University of Mobile.
