In a post-Thanksgiving, non-conference game, the Brenau University Golden Tigers defeated NCAA II Francis Marion University Patriots 61-59.
From the tip, Brenau controlled the offensive end, jumping out to an early 18-12 lead.
After a steal and a layup by Tala Black (Marietta, Ga.) and a driving layup by Olivia Williams (Hiram, Ga.), the Patriots were forced to bring full-court pressure to control the Golden Tiger offense.
A furious comeback by Francis Marion's pressure defense cut the deficit to 30-27 at the half.
The second half momentum swung back to Francis Marion, with the Patriots finally taking a 44-40 lead at the 11 minute mark.
However, the Golden Tigers would not be denied as they continued to attack the offensive glass. Nikki Reed (Atlanta, GA) dropped in a layup to regain the lead 45-44, and Brenau never trailed again.
Coach Kris Stewart "My team was very resilient tonight. We played a very athletic, physical team and we didn't back down. We out rebounded the Patriots 37-27 and had 10 assists. I am very proud of how we finished tonight."
Brenau was led by Brittney Wiley's 18 points. Black chipped in 15, while Williams scored eight.
The win brings Brenau's season record to 5-3. The Golden Tigers will host Belhaven University (MS) next Friday in an SSAC match-up.
