Tigers Maul Wildcats
In a post-final exam week clash, the Brenau Golden Tigers took the hardwood to face the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats.
From the opening tip, Brenau was sharp from the 3 point line. Sarah Ward (Elberton, Ga.) and Tala Black (Marietta, Ga.) hit back-to-back three pointers to take an early 9-5 lead. Ward's hot shooting continued through the first half as she connected on another 3 pointer to extend the Brenau lead. Fast break layups by Olivia Williams (Hiram, Ga.) and Gabby Harvey (Lilburn, Ga.) ignited a 12-0 run which ultimately led to a 56-31 halftime lead. In the first half, Brenau shot 61% from the floor and connected on 7 three point attempts.
The second half continued with Brenau's hot shooting. Layups by Anela Durmic (Grayson, Ga.), Raven Crawford (Toccoa, Ga.) and Claire Zimmerman (Woodstock, Ga.) extended the lead to 40 points, and eventually closed the game by a score of 99-71.
Brenau shot 61% from the field and connected on 12-16 three point attempts (75%). The team also had a season high 24 assists.
All 12 players scored for Brenau, led by Harvey's 16 points. Brittney Wiley (Royston, Ga.) added 13 points, Black chipped in 12 points and 5 assists, while Ward and Durmic both scored a season high 11 points.
Johnson and Wales was led by Myia Russell's 15 points. The win extended Brenau's season record to 6-5.
The Golden Tigers take the court against non-conference opponent Bryan College on Saturday.
