Brenau Takes On Bryan College 65-53
The Brenau Golden Tigers looked to continue their winning ways, taking on the Bryan College Lions in a non-conference matchup.
Early on the Golden Tigers were sluggish, giving up 5 early offensive rebounds to Bryan. However, the defense settled in, holding Bryan to an early 9-5 lead. Deep three point shots by Sarah Ward (Elberton, Ga.) and Anastasia Minaeva (Moscow, Russia) and a layup by Gabby Harvey (Lilburn, Ga.) finally gave the Golden Tigers the lead late in the first half.
In the second half, the Golden Tigers began to impose their will on Bryan. Baskets by Olivia Williams (Hiram, Ga.) and Jasmyn Farmer (Lilburn, Ga.) combined with back-to-back buckets by Tala Black (Marietta, Ga.) stretched the lead to 10 points and ultimately a 65-53 victory.
Coach Kris Stewart commented: "This was an excellent team effort. We played solid defense, shared the ball and got solid contributions from everyone. This is the second night in a row that we have had double digit assists and have shot the ball well. I am very proud of my team."
Brenau had four players in double figures, led by Harvey's 12 points and 13 rebounds. Brittney Wiley (Royston, Ga.) added 11 points and rebounds. Williams recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Black chipped in 11 points, while Ward scored 9 points. Brenau shot 54% from the floor in the second half and 48% for the game.
Bryan was led by Morgan Burnette's 22 points.
Brenau will face non-conference opponent Spelman College on Monday night at 6pm at Brenau University.
