Golden Tigers Fall to Hornets
In a non-conference matchup, the Brenau Golden Tigers dropped a close game against Kalamazoo College, 71-61.
Brenau started the game slowly, getting into a 15-0 hole in the first seven minutes of the game. The Golden Tigers fought back, as Makayla Angel (Pickens, Ga.) knocked down a three pointer to break the Hornets' momentum.
After a Quinnesha Turner (Winterville, Ga.) steal and layup, the Golden Tigers found themselves in a 34-19 deficit at the half.
After the half, the Golden Tigers found their rhythm and started a furious comeback. Freshman Nekeia Brown (Danielsville, Ga.) was fouled on a layup and hit the successive free throw to cut the Hornet lead to 3. Brittney Wiley (Royston, Ga.) then hit the front end of a one and one to cut the Kalamazoo lead to one. However, the Golden Tigers were unable to capture the lead.
Wiley led the Golden Tigers with 17 points. Jasmine Butler (Gainesville, Ga.) added 10 points and 6 rebounds.
Kalamazoo was led by Emily Lindsey's 19 points.
Brenau shot 17% from the floor in the first half and 35% for the game.
The Golden Tigers (6-5 overall) have a break for the holidays and return to the hardwood on January 10th at home versus conference foe Martin Methodist (Tn.) College.
