Golden Tigers Tame the Cougars
In a non-conference matchup, the Brenau Golden Tigers basketball team defeated Clearwater Christian College, 89-55.
The first half had both teams shooting well, as neither team could stretch the lead. Brittney Wiley (Royston, Ga.) hit back-to-back three pointers to give Brenau some breathing room, while two driving layups from senior Anela Durmic (Grayson, Ga.) increased the lead to 40-27 at half.
In the second half, the Golden Tigers found their rhythm, increasing the lead to 55-35 in the first five minutes of the half. Layups by Myka Lightfoot (Riverdale, Ga.) and Makayla Angel (Jasper, Ga.) continued the offensive flow, while Jasmine Williams (Palmetto, Ga.) and Carly Kluttz (Gastonia, N.C.) added short jumpers to give Brenau a 30-point lead with 10 minutes to play.
Sophomore Kalin Williams (Palmetto, Ga.) led the Golden Tigers with 16 points. Wiley added 13 points and 9 assists. Sophomore Jasmine Williams chipped in 10 points, while freshman Quinnesha Turner added 7 points and 3 assists.
Tori Hale led Clearwater Christian with 16 points.
The Golden Tigers shot 55% from the floor, while the Cougars were held to 34% for the game.
The Golden Tigers (6-4 overall) return to the court on Saturday to face Kalamazoo (MI) College at 2 pm.
