Cold Shooting Dooms Golden Tigers
In an SSAC conference matchup, the Brenau Golden Tigers fell to Faulkner University, 65-44 on Thursday night.
In the first half, the Golden Tigers offense was ice cold, missing early layups and foul shots, to find themselves into an 11-0 hole. The chilly shooting continued throughout the half, shooting a woeful 6/30 in the first half, and allowing the Eagles took a 32-18 lead into the half.
In the second half, the poor shooting continued as Brenau struggled to find their rhythm. Anela Durmic (Grayson, Ga.) scored eight straight points to get the Golden Tigers back into the game. A follow up three-pointer by sophomore Anikee Combee (Jonesboro, Ga.) gave Brenau life, but four straight empty possessions ended any hope of a rally.
"We played a really strong defensive game," said head coach Kris Stewart. "Our energy and discipline were evident, but we missed some early shots and it really affected our rhythm. I am disappointed in the outcome, but our players competed hard. It was just one of those bad shooting nights for us. I fully expect us to rebound in our next game".
Durmic led Brenau with 15 points. Christina Hayes led Faulkner with 17 points.
The Golden Tigers (9-8, 4-5 SSAC) shot 14-53 (26%) for the game, while the Eagles were 25-48 (52%) from the floor.
Brenau continues their conference slate on Saturday when they travel to Southern Poly (Ga.) University for a 2 pm tipoff.
