Brenau Basketball Falls To Coastal Georgia
The Brenau Golden Tigers made a furious comeback after a slow first half, but were unable to take the lead against College of Coastal Georgia, losing 68-55 on Saturday.
In the first half, the Golden Tigers simply could not find the mark, shooting a dismal 1-19 from three point range. Jasmine Butler (Gainesville, Ga.) scored eight early points to keep Brenau afloat, but the cold shooting put the Golden Tigers into a 32-17 deficit.
In the second half, the offense found its rhythm, as Brittney Wiley (Royston, Ga.) and Butler both found the mark on back to back threes. After a steal, sophomore Kalin Williams (Palmetto, Ga.) scored on a fast break layup to make it a six point game. Senior Anela Durmic (Grayson, Ga.) nailed a three pointer to get the Golden Tigers to within two, but the comeback effort was short.
"The first half was really tough," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We had great looks, but just couldn't get into a rhythm. In the second half, we knocked down our shots, but Coastal hit a few really tough ones the hold us off. Once again, we played so hard to come back, but just came up short. My team plays really hard and never quits and I am proud of that".
Jasmine Butler led all scorers with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Kalin Williams added 14 points, while Wiley added 10.
Olivia Melvin led the Mariners with 18 points.
Brenau shot 28% (19-69) for the game, while Coastal Georgia shot 45% (23-51).
The Golden Tigers next travel to Montgomery, Alabama on Monday to take on Faulkner University at 5:30.
