Basketball Recognized For Academic and Athletic Success
Members of the Brenau Basketball team were honored at the conference and national levels as seven players were recognized for their athletic and academic achievements.
Brenau University tied with Loyola (La.) University with the most SSAC All-Academic selections as five team members were selected as All-Academic recipients.
Anela Durmic, Kaitlin Fleming, Anastasia Minaeva, Brittney Wiley and Claire Zimmerman were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements. Members must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and be in at least their third term of attendance.
Senior Anastasia Minaeva also earned a place on the Daktronics-NAIA Division I Scholar-Athlete team. To be awarded, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status.
Junior Jasmine Butler and senior Brittney Wiley were chosen by conference coaches as All-Division selections for their outstanding seasons. Butler, who averaged 14.1 points per game and 8.7 rebounds, was ranked in the top ten in both scoring and rebounding in the SSAC. Wiley, a three-time All-Division selection, averaged 11.8 points and was second in scoring for the Golden Tigers.
Makayla Angel was selected as the Brenau Champions of Character recipient, which is given to the student-athlete that best represents the NAIA core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
"All of these young women have represented Brenau University and Brenau basketball for their contributions," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We were tied for the most All-Academic selections, which speaks volumes about our student-athletes and the University. I am very proud of our achievements and it is very rewarding to have success on and off the playing court".
