Dodson, a native of Jefferson City, Tennessee, is the daughter of Mary Dodson and Nathaniel Dodson. In 2013, she was a 2-AAA All-District selection, All-Lakeway Area and All-Conference selection, averaging 15.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.7 steals. In 2014, Dodson broke the 1,000 point mark for her career and was selected as part of the Inter-Mountain Athletic Conference (IMAC) All-Conference team and All-Tournament team and as a 2-AAA All-District team.
A standout in both basketball and track, Dodson also spends time as a volunteer, participating in Read Across America, Special Olympics and other service learning projects.
When asked about her commitment, Dodson said, "It is truly a blessing to be able to play basketball at the next level and to be part of such a great program".
Head coach Kris Stewart noted that, "Autumn is an outstanding player and person. She provides strong shooting and defensive ability to our program. She is a great addition to both the University and the basketball team".
