Basketball Splits on SSAC Road Trip
The Brenau basketball team split an SSAC road trip with a victory over William Carey (Miss.) University and a loss to Loyola (La.) University over the weekend.
Against William Carey, the Golden Tigers shot a season high 61% from the floor in the first half and 55% for the game for a 63-60 conference win.
Kalin Williams led the charge with a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Autumn Dodson continued her strong play with 13 points, while Nekeia Brown added 12 points on 6-6 shooting from the floor.
Against Loyola, cold shooting and foul trouble plagued the Golden Tigers who were overwhelmed 114-51.
The Wolf Pack shot a blistering 17-29 from three point range and cruised to the win.
Dodson led the Golden Tigers with 14 points, while Williams added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Caroline Gonzalez led all scorers with 20 points for Loyola.
"This road trip was a learning experience for us," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We shot very well against William Carey, but we simply couldn't find our touch against Loyola. We had open looks, but with Loyola making so many three pointers, the game got away from us".
"This young team captured their first conference win on the road and I think the experience against a strong Loyola team will serve us well in the future.
Brenau (3-4, 1-2 SSAC) takes a break for final exams but picks up on December 8th when they travel to non-conference Reinhardt (Ga.) University for a 6:00 pm tipoff.
