Basketball Rolls Against Voorhees
The Brenau basketball team used a balanced offense to defeat non-conference Voorhees (S.C.) College 68-53 on Thursday night.
In the first half, junior Claire Zimmerman (JR/Woodstock, Ga.) knocked down two early three pointers to get the offense rolling while sophomore Nekeia Brown (SO/Danielsville, Ga.) provided a strong inside presence with 11 first half points. Sophomore forward Briah Woods (SO/Acworth, Ga.) also added eight first half points to keep Voorhees at bay.
Zimmerman then added her third three pointer right before the buzzer to extend the Golden Tiger lead to 35-26 at the half.
In the second half, the Golden Tigers continued to pound the ball inside as Brown added eight more points to increase the lead, while Carly Kluttz (SO/Gastonia, NC) knocked down a corner three pointer to give the Golden Tigers a 17 point lead. Freshman Autumn Dodson (FR/Jefferson City, Tenn.) added four late free throws to seal the victory.
"This was a complete team win," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We are still maturing, and tonight we played a nice inside-outside game. It is nice to get a win going into the break, and I am proud of how this young team is improving".
Brown led all scorers with a season high 19 points and 12 rebounds. Dodson added 13 points, while Kalin Williams (JR/Palmetto, Ga.) added 11. Zimmerman also contributed 10 points to the win.
Kimberly Gordon led Voorhees with 13 points.
Brenau (4-5, 1-2 SSAC) takes a few weeks off before returning on January 2nd for a 5 pm tipoff against the University of Mobile.
