Basketball Signs Gillespie and Haas for 2015
Brenau basketball announces the signings of Mckensi Gillespie and Sydney Haas to the 2015-16 team.
Gillespie, a native of Lula, Georgia is a standout guard from North Hall High School. During her career, Gillespie was a two-time All-Region first team selection, an All-Area selection and a member of the Lanierland Tournament All-Tournament team. During her senior season, she averaged 10 points and four assists and was named both team defensive player of the year and team MVP. Gillespie was also the first recipient of the Pride of the Lady Trojan Award at North Hall High School.
"Kensi is a smart, unselfish player who constantly strives to get better every day," said North Hall High School coach Kristi House. "She is a fearless defender and does a great job of getting her teammates the ball. She has worked tirelessly on her game and I am tremendously proud of her and the opportunity she has at Brenau University."
Haas, a native of Connelly Springs, North Carolina, is a 6'2 transfer from Lenoir-Rhyne University. As a senior at East Burke High School, Haas averaged 16 points, nine rebounds and 1.5 blocks. During her senior campaign, Haas was named to the 2013 All-SMAC 2A/3A Conference Team, the 2013 All-Observer Area District Team and was 2013 All-County Player of the Year.
Haas will also participate in the throwing events for the SSAC champion Brenau track and field team.
"I thank God for giving me a second chance to do what I love," said Haas. "Brenau is an environment that is like home to me."
"Both of these young women will be excellent additions to our program," said head coach Kris Stewart. "Kensi is a great shooter and defender, while Sydney is a strong offensive player with great size who will be a great addition to our frontcourt. I am very excited to have both of them here at Brenau."
