Basketball Runs Past Montreat
The Brenau basketball team used a balanced attack to defeat Montreat (N.C.) College 66-55 on Saturday in Gainesville.
After a tight first quarter, the Golden Tigers found their stride in a strong second quarter as Claire Zimmerman knocked down a three pointer to increase the lead to four, while Dominique Patrick knocked down two free throws gave the Golden Tigers a 34-28 lead at the half.
Montreat rallied to cut the game to 49-48 at the end of the third quarter, but a 17-7 fourth quarter propelled the Golden Tigers to a 66-55 win.
"We played very hard today to earn the win," said head coach Kris Stewart. "It was a good team win and I think it shows how our team is coming together."
Patrick led Brenau with 20 points, while Zimmerman added 11 points. Kalin Williams also added eight points and seven rebounds.
Shannon Jackson led Montreat with 23 points.
Brenau (1-1) next hosts Voorhees (SC) College on Tuesday at 5:30 eastern in Gainesville.
