Basketball Slips By Reinhardt; Wins Sixth Straight Game
The Brenau basketball team extended their winning streak to six games with a 51-48 victory over non-conference opponent Reinhardt (Ga.) University on Tuesday in Waleska, Ga.
In the early first quarter, the Golden Tigers jumped out to a 13-4 lead as Kalin Williams scored six early points. However, the lead was short-lived as the Eagles used a big 18-6 second quarter to take a 22-19 lead into intermission.
After the break, Brenau used full-court pressure to swing the momentum as Quinnesha Turner scored layups on back-to-back steals to help tie the game. Sophomore Autumn Dodson added two quick three pointers during the rally to give Brenau a two point lead at the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter, Brenau held on to a one point lead during most of the final frame as Dodson and Dominique Patrick knocked down free throws in the waning seconds to secure the win.
"This was a good win for us, particularly coming off such a long break," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We really struggled finding our rhythm, but Que Turner really helped us find our energy with her defense in the third quarter. We did shoot the three-point shot well (7-15) and hit our free throws down the stretch to get the win."
Williams led Brenau with 13 points, while Briah Woods added 11 points and eight rebounds. Patrick added nine points and five rebounds, while Dodson also added nine points.
Jada Hubbard led Reinhardt with 16 points.
Brenau (6-1 overall, 2-0 SSAC) next travels to Voorhees (S.C.) College on Thursday for a 6 pm non-conference matchup.
