Basketball Wins At Middle Georgia
The Brenau basketball team used a balanced offensive attack and a strong defensive effort to defeat Middle Georgia State University 69-57 in Cochran on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers jumped out to a 14-4 first quarter lead behind six points from junior forward Briah Woods. In the second quarter, senior post Jasmine Williams scored six points, while the Brenau defense held the Knights to 11% shooting to take a 30-22 into the break.
In the third quarter, the Knights rallied with seven points to open the half, but sophomore Autumn Dodson nailed back to back three pointers to keep the Brenau lead in double digits. Post Maegan Kenimer added seven second half points, while freshman Kaylyn Brooks added a season-high six points to the win.
"We played very good defense in the first half," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We got a nice balanced attack on offense, but I felt like we could have finished better. Kalin Williams had an outstanding performance with 17 rebounds, which is very impressive for a guard and our posts also did a very nice job today. We won a tough conference game on the road and I hope we can build on the performance."
Dodson led the way with 13 points, while Williams added a season-high 12 points. Kalin Williams added 11 points and 17 rebounds, while Kenimer chipped in 11 points.
Middle Georgia was led by Tascianna Taylor's game-high 22 points.
Brenau shot 45% (23-51) from the floor, while Middle Georgia shot 29% (20-69).
Brenau (8-9 overall, 3-6 SSAC) next plays host to SSAC rival College of Coastal Georgia on Thursday at 5:30 eastern.
