The Brenau basketball team used a strong offensive attack to defeat Tennessee Wesleyan 65-56 in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday in Gainesville.
Brenau led by as many as seven in the first quarter as seven different players scored in the opening frame. The Golden Tigers held the Bulldogs to 2/12 shooting in the period to take a 15-12 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Maegan Kenimer blocked a shot from the Bulldogs' Sarah McKinnon to ignite a fast break for the Golden Tigers as Autumn Dodson scored on a layup to make the lead 28-18. With just over four minutes remaining in the game, Tennessee Wesleyan's Madison Walkup nailed a three pointer to cut the lead to 57-53. However, free throws from Briah Woods and Kaylyn Brooks and another basket by Dodson stretched the lead back to nine to close out the win.
"This was a quality win against a very good opponent," said head coach Kris Stewart. "Our defense did a very good job throughout the game and we received a strong contribution from our bench. It is always nice to play well late in the season and I am very proud of our effort and discipline."
Woods scored a career-high 20 points and added 13 rebounds, while Dodson added 12 points on 5-5 shooting to help the Golden Tigers win their 12th game of the year. Brooks also added a career high 7 points to the win.
