AUM Outlasts Brenau 71-61
The Brenau basketball team pushed SSAC rival Auburn-Montgomery for four quarters, but came up short 71-61 on Saturday in Gainesville.
The first quarter was a back and forth battle with both offenses playing at a high level. Kalin Williams scored back-to-back baskets to tie the game at 20-20, while two free throws from Autumn Dodson gave the Golden Tigers their first lead of the game. AUM closed the quarter with three points to regain the lead 23-22.
Brenau retook the lead and stretched it to seven points in the second quarter as Sydney Haas found Myka Lightfoot to take a 34-27 lead. However, AUM finished the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 40-39 lead into the break.
After halftime, the defenses took over as both teams struggled to finish. Dominique Patrick scored on a short jumper to make the Brenau lead 44-40, but AUM's answered with a short run, including a Jatoria Carter basket at the buzzer to give the Warhawks a 52-46 lead.
In the fourth quarter, AUM kept the Golden Tigers at a distance until a Briah Woods jumper closed the game to five with 8:31 remaining. However, the Warhawks answered every Brenau run with a basket of their own to pull away with the victory.
Brenau was led by Dodson's 15 points, while Patrick added 14 points and six assists.
Carter notched a game-high 24 for AUM.
Brenau (13-13 overall, 7-10 SSAC) next plays non-conference Allen (SC) University on Tuesday at 5:30 pm in Gainesville.
