Basketball Receives Conference Postseason Honors
The Brenau basketball team garnered several honors as the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) announced the 2015-16 postseason award winners at the conference banquet in Montgomery.
Kalin Williams was selected as a Second -Team All-Conference selection as voted by the conference coaches for her performance during the 2015-16 season. Williams led the Golden Tigers in scoring (12.4), rebounding (6.0) and steals (34) and was among the conference leaders in points per game (10th), total points (9th), free throw percentage (9th) and double-doubles (11th). The senior guard was also named to the Second-Team All-Conference in 2014-15.
Six Golden Tigers were also honored as SSAC All-Academic team members, which was tied for the most in the conference. Williams joined teammates Makayla Angel, Autumn Dodson, Sydney Haas, Dominique Patrick and Claire Zimmerman to receive this honor. SSAC All-Academic team members must maintain a cumulative minimum 3.25 GPA or higher and have been enrolled in at least four semesters of college.
Dodson was also selected as the 2015-16 Brenau Champions of Character recipient. The sophomore guard was honored for best representing the NAIA Five Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.
"It was a very good year for our team," said head coach Kris Stewart. "Not only did we perform well on the court, but we continued to excel in the classroom. This is the second consecutive year that our players were tied for the most All-Academic selections and I believe that is the most important honor our players can receive."
"Congratulations also to Kalin Williams for another outstanding season. She is an excellent player and student and all of her honors are well-deserved."
