Basketball Inks North Carolina Standout
Brenau basketball announces the signing of Madison Zaferatos to the 2016-17 team.
Zaferatos is the daughter of Lori Fox and Dennis Zaferatos and a standout athlete for both Davie County High School in Mocksville, NC and the Carolina Express AAU team.
"We are very excited to have Madison join our team and University," said head coach Kris Stewart. "She is an excellent passer and shooter who had an outstanding high school career. We believe she will be a great addition to our team."
As a junior, Zaferatos averaged 14 points per game, five assists, four rebounds and three steals and was honored as a Winston-Salem Journal All-Northwest selection and as a North Carolina Coaches Association second team District 11 performer.
During her senior year, Zaferatos averaged 11 points, four assists and two rebounds and was selected as a Central Piedmont First-team member for the third consecutive year. She was also honored as a North Carolina Coaches Association District 11 Second Team member and was chosen to play in the Triad East-West All-Star game.
The standout point guard also eclipsed 1,000 points during her final season- only the 11th player in Davie County High history to reach that mark.
She was also a member of the Beta Club, HOSA, the A-B honor roll and was active in volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and at several youth basketball camps.
"I am excited about my future and everything Brenau University has to offer," said Zaferatos. "Thanks to Coach Stewart and Coach Aiken for believing in me."
Zaferatos is the first signee of 2016-17 for the basketball program.
