Big Fourth Quarter Propels Golden Tigers Past Keiser
The Brenau basketball team used a strong fourth quarter to run past Keiser (Fla.) University 71-57 in a non-conference matchup in Gainesville on Friday.
The Golden Tigers outscored the Seahawks 21-11 in the final stanza to pull away with their second victory of the season.
"Our quality depth showed in this game," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We have a deep team and this is the second game in a row we have had quality performances from our bench."
"We played great team basketball tonight against a very good Keiser team and I am very pleased with how well we defended and rebounded."
Brenau led 15-14 after the opening period but the visitors rallied in the second quarter as Aleksandra Trisic nailed a three-pointer to take a 27-25 lead. The Seahawks' Kelsi Ash then gave her squad their largest lead of the game at 29-25 with 2:28 to play. However, the Golden Tigers closed out the half on a 7-0 run as layups from Jasmine Knight and Cameron Mims tied up the game, then Autumn Dodson nailed a three-pointer with five seconds left in the period to give the home team a 24-29 lead going into the break.
After closing the third period with a 50-46 lead, the Golden Tigers opened the fourth quarter with a 16-0 run to give Brenau a 66-46 and ultimately the win.
Knight had an outstanding performance with 13 points, nine rebounds, six assists and six steals, while Dodson led all scorers with 19 points. Junior Lia Thomas added 10 points and six rebounds and freshman Ashanti Brown chipped in four points and five rebounds.
Keiser (2-1) was led by Trisic's nine points.
Brenau (2-0 overall) opens Appalachian Athletic Conference play against #19 Reinhardt (2-0) on Tuesday at 5:30 in Gainesville.
