Buzzer Beater Upends Basketball Against Truett-McConnell
The Brenau basketball team fell on a last-second buzzer beater to Truett-McConnell College 55-53 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Monday in Cleveland, Ga.
After a lackluster first half, the Golden Tigers found themselves in a nine-point deficit at the half. In the third quarter, the defense locked down, allowing Truett-McConnell to score only four points in the period. The defensive pressure allowed Brenau to tie the game at 42-42 entering the final period.
Brenau took their largest lead of the game at the 6:01 mark as Jasmine Knight found Madison Phillips for a three-pointer to make the score 53-46. However, the Golden Tigers were scoreless for the final six minutes, allowing Truett to tie the game with under a minute to play.
With four seconds remaining, the Bears' Anna Murr finished a driving layup as time expired to give the host team the win.
Phillips led all scorers with a season-high 18 points, including six three pointers. Jasmine Knight added six points, 10 assists and six rebounds.
Bralise Reese led the Bears with 16 points.
Brenau (19-8 overall, 13-7 AAC) next travels to Milligan College (16-12 overall, 12-10 AAC) on Wednesday for a 5:30 pm game.
