Tennessee Wesleyan Slips Past Basketball 59-56
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team led by as many as twelve points in the first half, but faded in the fourth quarter in a 59-56 loss to Tennessee Wesleyan in Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday.
Leading 13-9 with 2:01 remaining in the first quarter, the Golden Tigers rolled off seven straight points to take the biggest lead of the game for either team. Dyiesha Brown started the run with a three pointer, and then Lia Thomas increased the lead to nine with a steal and a layup. Brown then hit her second three pointer to give Brenau a 21-9 lead.
The Bulldogs rallied in the second quarter, outscoring the Golden Tigers 18-11 to cut the deficit to 31-30 at the half.
In the third quarter, Brenau again took control of the game as Celine Vega nailed a three pointer at the 4:11 mark to make the score 46-36. A steal and layup by Cameron Mims with one second left helped Brenau take a 52-44 lead going into the final period.
In the final stanza, the Brenau offense went ice cold as the squad shot 14% (2-14) to allow the Bulldogs to escape with the victory.
Lia Thomas led all scorers with 15 points and five rebounds, while Dyiesha Brown added eight points and eight rebounds.
Hunter Simpson led Tennessee Wesleyan with 13 points.
Brenau (5-4 overall, 3-3 AAC) next travels to Montreat College (4-5 overall, 3-3 AAC) on Saturday for a 2 pm AAC showdown.
