Basketball Falls at Milligan College 71-60
Elizabethton, Tennessee- A cold start doomed the Brenau basketball team as the Golden Tigers fell to Milligan College 71-60 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
The Buffaloes started the game on fire as the hosts led by as many as twenty in the first half. However, in the second half the Golden Tigers found their stride as a short jumper from freshman Katherine Fourie cut the Milligan lead to 46-40 with 1:27 remaining in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Golden Tigers couldn't close the gap as Milligan answered every Brenau basket with one of their own to pull away with the victory.
"Milligan started fast and we didn't," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We played hard enough in the second half to win and we made it close, but credit to Milligan for jumping out to a big lead and holding off our runs."
Junior Ashanti Brown led Brenau with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Fourie added 13 points. Junior guard Hanna Grogan added 11 points and fellow junior Tatyiana McClendon chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
Milligan's Emily Kiser led all scorers with 29 points.
Brenau (5-3 overall, 2-2 AAC) next travels to take on Reinhardt University (6-0 overall, 5-0 AAC) in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday at 5:30 pm in Waleska, Ga.
