Basketball Receives AAC Postseason Honors
Kingsport, Tennessee- Members of the 2019-20 Brenau basketball team were honored for their athletic and academic achievements by the Appalachian Athletic Conference, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Katherine Fourie was named to the 2020 AAC All-Freshman team for her performance during her inaugural season as a Golden Tiger. The Lawrenceville, Georgia native averaged 10 points per game and made 64 three pointers, which was the third most in Brenau history behind former standout Autumn Dodson. The sharp shooter ranked 11th in the AAC in three-point percentage (34%), 7th in three pointers made per game (2.37), 7th in total three-pointers made (64) and was ranked in the top-50 in the NAIA in three pointers made per game. She is the seventh Golden Tiger freshman to receive this award, joining the most recent honoree and fellow teammate Ashanti Brown, who was honored in 2017-18.
Senior Dyiesha Brown also received the 2020 Brenau Champions of Character award. The Champions of Character recipient goes to the individual that best represents the NAIA's Five Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.
Additionally, the Golden Tigers had eight players honored as 2019-2020 AAC All-Academic team members for their academic accomplishments. Seniors Jamie Bunting, Barbara Carter, Carmen Garcia-Pitarch Lopez and Maddy Zaferatos, juniors Ashanti Brown, Rachel Chapman and Hanna Grogan and sophomores Xian Lopez and TyLeeah Maddox received this award. Team members must have a cumulative 3.25 GPA or higher and have reached at least sophomore status.
