Bryan Rolls Past Brenau Basketball in AAC Play
Gainesville, Georgia- A cold shooting third quarter doomed the Brenau basketball team in a 112-69 loss to Bryan (Tenn.) College in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Tuesday.
After the visiting Lions (4-0 overall, 4-0 AAC) took a 24-16 lead in the first quarter, the Golden Tigers responded with a solid second quarter as senior Hanna Grogan scored on a driving layup to cut the deficit to 24-18. Bryan answered with a 12-4 over the next three minutes until sophomore Michalea Cope hit a short jumper to close the gap to seven points. Again the teams battled back and forth until Cope stole a Lions pass and hit a layup to make the halftime score 54-41.
In the third quarter, the Golden Tigers started the first five minutes of the period without a basket as the Lions pulled away to take the victory.
The Lions outshot the Golden Tigers 52.3% (45-86) to 36.4% (28-77) in the game.
Junior guard Tyleia Williams led Brenau with 20 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Katherine Fourie added 15 points. Freshman Nyla Moore added 11 points and junior Tatyiana McClendon added 10 rebounds.
Allissa Mulaski led Bryan with 25 points.
Brenau (2-3 overall, 2-3 AAC) next travels to face Milligan (Tenn.) University (2-5 overall, 2-2 AAC) on Saturday for a 2 pm matchup.
