Basketball Falls to Milligan University 82-71
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team lost to Milligan (Tenn.) University 82-71 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday.
After a highly competitive first quarter between both teams, Milligan opened the second quarter with a 12-4 run to extend its lead to 32-20. The Golden Tigers rallied as two free throws from junior Tamia Francis and an offensive rebound and put back from junior Tyleia Williams cut the deficit to 43-35 at the half.
Throughout the third quarter, the Buffaloes kept the lead by holding off each Golden Tigers' surge. In the final stanza, one last Brenau rally fell short as the visitors escaped with the win.
Brenau posted five players in double figures as senior Hanna Grogan led Brenau with 15 points, while fellow senior Tatyiana McClendon posted 12 points. Junior Tamia Francis posted 10 points and seven rebounds, while Williams and sophomore Katherine Fourie each had 11 points.
Milligan's Lily Griffith led all scorers with 24 points.
Milligan shot a blistering 70 percent (14-20) in the first half and 24-46 (52%) for the game, while Brenau shot 43% (26-61) from the floor.
Brenau (4-5 overall, 4-5 AAC) next travels to face Bryan (Tenn.) College (7-2 overall, 7-0 AAC) next Saturday at 2 pm.
