Cold Shooting Downs Golden Tigers vs Columbia College
Columbia, South Carolina- A cold shooting fourth quarter doomed the Brenau basketball team in a 83-68 loss to Columbia (S.C.) College in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
After a strong 20-10 first quarter for the Golden Tigers, the Koalas answered with a 24-13 second quarter to give the hosts a 34-33 lead at the break.
In the third quarter, both teams played evenly as neither team led by more than four points. Two free throws by junior Tamia Francis late in the period allowed Brenau a 60-59 lead going into the fourth quarter.
In the final stanza, the Golden Tigers started quickly as freshman Nyla Moore scored four consecutive points in the first two minutes, however, the squad managed only four more points over the final six minutes as the Koalas pulled away with the win.
Francis led Brenau with a career-high 20 points, while Katherine Fourie added 12 points. Seniors Tatyiana McClendon and Hanna Grogan also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Brenau shot 25-71 (35%) from the floor and (4-23) 17% from beyond the arc, while Columbia went 31-67 (46%) from the floor and 5-20 (25%) from three point range.
Carnasia Wells led Columbia with a game-high 23 points.
Brenau (4-7 overall, 4-7 AAC) next travels to face Union (Ky.) College (12-3 overall, 11-3 AAC) on Tuesday at 5 pm in Barbourville, Kentucky.
