Basketball Falls to Point University at AAC Tournament
Kingsport, Tennessee- The Brenau basketball team's season came to a close with a 67-50 loss to Point (Ga.) University in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday.
In a highly competitive first quarter, the #4 seeded Point Skyhawks edged out the #5 Golden Tigers 20-16. However cold shooting doomed Brenau in the second quarter as the squad managed only five points in the period to take a 40-21 deficit into the break.
After the break, Brenau found its stride as outscored Point 20-14 in the quarter to cut into the Skyhawk lead with a score of 54-41.
In the fourth quarter, the Golden Tigers started the period on a run as junior Tyleia Williams nailed a three pointer to make the score 54-44. Back to back baskets by senior Hanna Grogan and junior Xian Lopez made the game 54-48, but the Golden Tigers were unable to complete the comeback.
Williams led Brenau with 13 points, while junior Tamia Francis posted six points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
Point's Iyanna McMillian led all scorers with 24 points.
Brenau ends the season with a 9-9 record and will return thirteen letterwinners to the 2021-22 squad.
