Basketball Falls to Union 72-54 in AAC Play
Barbourville, Kentucky- A sluggish first half offset a strong second half in a 72-54 loss to Union (Ky.) College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday.
In the first quarter, both teams opened with collective offensive struggles as the teams combined for a 9-8 score. In the second quarter, the shooting woes continued for the Golden Tigers as the team only managed four points in the period to make the score 26-12 at halftime.
After halftime, Brenau found its stride with a strong third quarter as junior Hanna Cannon scored five of her 12 points in the period, but the Bulldogs (3-2 overall, 2-2 AAC) held pace to keep a 17 point lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Golden Tigers cut the lead to eight points, however, the Bulldogs answered with back to back baskets to pull away with the win.
Cannon and junior Nyla Moore led Brenau with 12 points each, while freshman Jill Pittman added six points and three assists.
Brooke Hammonds led Union with 24 points.
Brenau (2-3 overall, 1-3 AAC) next travels to Tennessee Wesleyan University (4-2 overall, 3-1 AAC) in an AAC matchup on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
