Hot Shooting Propels Golden Tigers Past Johnson 76-51
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team hit eleven three pointers in the first half to cruise past Johnson (Tenn.) University 76-51 in an Appalachian Athletic contest this past weekend.
In the first quarter, the Golden Tigers came out hot as the squad shot 11-19 from the floor and 6-11 from three point range to jump out to a 29-16 advantage.
In the second quarter, Brenau kept up the hot shooting and added a stellar defensive effort as the squad held the visiting Royals to only five points in the quarter. Senior forward Katherine Fourie drilled two deep three pointers during the 27-5 run, while sophomore guard Jill Pittman added two three pointers of her own as the squad shot a blistering 67% from the field and 71% from deep in the period to take a 56-21 lead into halftime.
After the break, Brenau extended the lead to 60-30 on an Anna Gliatta layup, which was the largest of the game. Johnson cut the deficit to 64-41 in the early part of the fourth quarter, but never threatened.
Brenau shot 44% (28-64) from the field and 42% (13-31) from three point range, while Johnson was held to 37% (18-49) from the floor and 21% (3-14) from three point range.
Gliatta and Tyleia Williams led Brenau with 13 points each, while Pittman added 10 points. Nyla Moore added 9 points and junior Hanna Cannon posted 5 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks.
Cassidy Hill led Johnson with 17 points.
Brenau next takes on Columbia (SC) International University on Wednesday at 5:30 pm in Gainesville.
