Basketball Upends Kentucky Christian 71-66
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball used a balanced attack to upend Kentucky Christian University 71-66 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday.
After an even 16-16 first quarter, the Golden Tigers rallied in the second quarter as senior forward Nyla Moore scored 10 points in the period and freshman guard Maleah Harrison chipped in 5 points to give Brenau a 37-34 lead going into the break.
The home team led throughout the second half until the Knight’s Abby West hit a 3 pointer to take a 61-60 advantage with 4:09 left to play. The Golden Tigers regained the lead with 3:14 remaining as sophomore guard Anna Gliatta nailed two free throws for a 64-63 advantage and held the lead the rest of the game to earn the victory.
Brenau shot 41.5% (27-65) from the floor and 38.9%(7-18) from three point range, while Kentucky Christian (2-8 overall, 2-7 AAC) shot 41.3% and 33.3% respectively.
Gliatta led Brenau with 20 points and 6 rebounds, while Moore added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Ellie Kinlaw added 14 points and sophomore forward Mackayla Etheridge added 7 points and 9 rebounds.
Bellamee Sparks led KCU with 20 points.
Brenau (4-5 overall, 3-4 AAC) next travels to take on Johnson (Tn.) University (7-5 overall, 5-2 AAC) in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday.
