Basketball Defeats Union 70-60 in AAC Competition
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball used another good third quarter run to defeat Union (Ky.) College 70-60 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday.
In the first quarter, the Golden Tigers came out fast as the squad hit five three pointers to take a 21-11 advantage. Junior post Kayla Stafford nailed two three pointers and fellow post Pollie Simpson added a triple of her own to help take an early lead.
In the second quarter, the visiting Bulldogs held a slight advantage, but the home team took a solid 37-29 lead into intermission.
The Brenau offense showed a balanced attack in the third quarter as six players scored and extended its lead to 61-41 by the end of the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Union cut the lead to 10, but the Golden Tigers hit free throws down the stretch to take the victory.
Sophomore guard Anna Gliatta led the Golden Tigers with 18 points and 7 rebounds, while freshman guard S.G. Bertolini posted a career-best 17 points. Stafford also chipped in 9 points and 8 rebounds.
Union’s Rachel Smith led all scorers with 21 points.
Brenau (6-6 overall, 5-5 AAC) next hosts Columbia International (S.C) University (3-8 overall, 2-7 AAC) in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
