Basketball Falls to Pikeville 80-54 in AAC Play
Pikeville, Kentucky- The Brenau basketball team fell to the University of Pikeville (Ky.) 80-54 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday.
In the first quarter, both teams came out fast as sophomores Anna Gliatta and Ellie Kinlaw combined for 11 points to keep the score close at 18-16.
However, cold shooting in the second quarter doomed the Golden Tigers as the host Bears (17-7 overall, 13-5 AAC) went on a 26-7 run to take a commanding 44-23 lead into intermission.
In the third quarter, Gliatta found her stroke again with 12 points in the quarter to help Brenau outscore the Bears 21-20. However, the Golden Tigers could not hold momentum and failed to cut into the deficit in the fourth quarter to take the loss.
Gliatta led all scorers with 23 points, while senior Nyla Moore added 12 points.
Brenau (9-13 overall, 8-11 AAC) next hosts Johnson (Tn) University (15-10 overall , 13-6 AAC) on Saturday at 2 pm for senior day. The squad will honor its seniors immediately after the varsity game.
