Brenau Rolls Past Bluefield 82-67 in AAC Play
Bluefield, Virginia- The Brenau basketball used an explosive third quarter to run past Bluefield (Va.) 82-67 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday.
After the Golden Tigers took a 19-15 lead in the first quarter, the host Rams responded with a 24-14 second quarter to take a 39-33 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was the difference as Brenau scored 32 points on 12-18 (67%) shooting, including a blistering 5-7(71%) from three point range to take a commanding 66-50 lead. Sophomore guard Ellie Kinlaw erupted for 14 points in the period, including a blistering 4-5 from three point range.
Brenau matched Bluefield in the fourth quarter to take the win.
Brenau shot 44.1% (30-68) from the floor, while Bluefield (2-14 overall, 2-9 AAC) shot 35.5% (22-62) in the game.
Senior forward Nyla Moore notched a career-high 34 points and 6 rebounds, while Kinlaw added a career best 19 points and 5 rebounds. Junior post Kayla Stafford added 10 points and 9 rebounds, while senior forward Hanna Cannon added 7 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks.
Destiny Long led Bluefield with 27 points.
Brenau (5-6 overall, 4-5 AAC) next travels hosts Union (Ky.) University (2-13 overall, 2-7 AAC) in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
