Golden Tigers fall to Bluefield on Senior Day
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team despite another good defensive performance come up short in AAC play to Bluefield (3-19 overall, and 3-15 AAC).
The game was a competitive contest throughout as both teams battled to seven ties and twelve different lead changes throughout with neither team leading by more than seven points during the four quarters of play. After a strong start from (Sr) Izzy Evangelista they took a 16-14 lead after one quarter, the Brenau offense sputtered in the second quarter but were able to lock up Bluefield defensively and the game went to the half tied at 23.
In the second half, the teams continued to trade baskets and defensive stops until late in the fourth quarter when Bluefield's Destiny Long took over the game. Long finished with 30 points and was able to carve up a tired defense at will late in the game.
Kayla Stafford, added to her AAC defensive player of the year resume with another strong performance. Stafford finished with 11 points, 17 rebounds and 3 assists.
Brenau (5-16 overall, 4-12 AAC) looks to get back on track as they travel to Columbia International (CIU) (1-19 overall, 1-16 AAC) on Monday. Tip off is at 5:30 pm eastern.
