Basketball Wins Third Straight; Runs Past Toccoa Falls 71-63
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team used a strong first half to defeat Toccoa Falls (Ga.) College 71-63 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday.
The Golden Tigers shot a blistering 53% in the first quarter to take an early 21-15 lead. The squad continued to put points on the board in the second stanza as junior Kristina Peach and senior Emelia Askew combined for 15 points in the period to help the home team take a 42-28 lead going into halftime.
Brenau took its largest lead late in the third quarter—19 points —and held fast throughout the fourth quarter to secure the team's third win of the season.
Both teams shot 40% from the floor in the game, but the Eagles (0-4 overall) shot only 2-17 (11.8%) from beyond the arc and 13-24 (54%) from the foul line, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Peach led all scorers with 21 points, and Askew posted a career-best 16 points.
Junior SG Bertolini added 9 assists and 7 rebounds, while sophomore Sammi Spees added 7 points in the victory.
Lydia Wolfe led Toccoa Falls with 20 points.
The Golden Tigers complete the series sweep over the Eagles after besting the visitors 78-70 earlier in the month.
Brenau (3-2 overall, 0-1 AAC) continues its early non-conference slate when the squad travels to take on Hollins (Va.) University (0-0 overall) at the Agnes Scott Tipoff Classic on Friday at 6 pm.
