Basketball Uses Balanced Attack to Down Agnes Scott 79-50
Decatur, Georgia- The Brenau basketball used a balanced offensive attack and a solid defensive performance to defeat Agnes Scott (Ga.) College 79-50 at the Agnes Scott Tipoff Classic on Sunday
The Golden Tigers jumped out to a commanding ten point first quarter lead as the defense held the host Scotties to only seven points in the quarter. The squad continued to play well into the second quarter by outscoring Agnes Scott 19-7 to take a commanding 36-14 lead into the break.
In the third quarter, Agnes Scott found its rhythm and outscored Brenau 18-16, but were unable to significantly cut into the deficit. During the final stanza, the Golden Tigers again found the offensive rhythm with a 27 point quarter to roll to victory.
All 11 Golden Tigers scored in the contest as senior Emelia Askew led Brenau with 14 points. Junior forward Caylie Long continued her strong play with 11 points and 9 rebounds, while senior Alana Veiga posted a career-best 11 points and added 6 boards. Sophomore Sammi Spees chipped in 8 points and 5 rebounds.
Agnes Scott's Alex McElroy led all scorers with 16 points.
The Golden Tigers posted a season-best 29 offensive rebounds in the victory.
Brenau (4-3 overall, 0-1 AAC) returns to Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play on Wednesday when the squad travels to take on Milligan (Tn.) College (1-2 overall, 0-0 AAC) at 5:30 pm on Wednesday.
