Bio

Kris Stewart is entering his 16th season as head women's basketball coach at Brenau University and his 29th year in the coaching profession.

Since taking over the Brenau program, Stewart has guided the development of 17 All-Conference selections, eight All-Freshman Team members, one Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and one NAIA All-American. During the 2018–19 season, he led the Golden Tigers to a program-record 20 victories.

Stewart began his coaching career at Freedom High School in Morganton, North Carolina, where he served as an assistant basketball coach from 1998 to 2000. In addition to basketball, he coached football and track while teaching English.

He then moved to Austin College in Sherman, Texas, serving as the first assistant coach under Deb Hunter from 2000 to 2002. Following his time at Austin College, Stewart became head coach at Forbush High School in East Bend, North Carolina. In his first season, he earned Mountain Valley 2A Coach of the Year honors. Over five seasons (2002–07), he compiled a 74–42 record and guided the program to five consecutive state playoff appearances.

From 2007 to 2011, Stewart returned to his alma mater, Lees-McRae College, where he worked as Director of Residence Life, served in Instructional Technology, taught in the Teacher Education Department, and was an assistant coach for the women's basketball program.

Stewart earned a bachelor's degree in English from Lees-McRae College and master's degrees in Education from the University of Missouri and Psychology-Clinical Counseling from Brenau University. In addition to his coaching duties at Brenau, he serves as the university's Sports Information Director. Stewart and his wife, Holly, reside in Gainesville, Georgia, with their daughters, Hannah and Taylor.
