Standout Golfer Commits to Brenau
Coach Damon Stancil announces the signing of Kelly Garland to the Brenau University golf team.
Garland, formerly Kelly Pearce, is a transfer from Armstrong Atlantic State University and brings with her an outstanding high school and collegiate resume.
As a senior at Sherwood Christian High School, she won the Albany Amateur Championship. She was also named the Doak Cup Award winner at the Georgia Women's Golf Association's State Amateur Championship.
As a collegiate player, Garland was selected as a Peach Belt 2nd Team All-Conference player in 2009 and 2010. In 2011, she was also selected twice as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week and was a member of the Peach Belt Conference Championship team. In 2012, Garland won the Dana Rader Intercollegiate Individual Title.
Off the course, Garland is heavily involved in community service. In 2011 she participated in a mission trip for disaster relief to Alabama after tornado damage. The next summer, she served on a medical mission trip to Honduras.
Garland said of her commitment, "I could not be more excited to be playing golf for Brenau and Coach Stancil. This is a unique opportunity for all of us to set the tone for the future of women's golf at Brenau and I hope to do my part to contribute. I am excited to meet the rest of my teammates and prepare for our inaugural season in the fall.
When asked about his newest player, Coach Damon Stancil noted her talent and experience, saying, "Kelly is a proven winner both academically and athletically. I couldn't have asked for a better player, or person for that matter, to come in and help build a winning golf program here at Brenau. It's great to have an upperclassman to help guide our younger players as well."
Garland, an Occupational Therapy major, is the third signee of the golf team's inaugural recruiting class.
