Golf Finishes Fifth at Birmingham Invitational
On day two of the Birmingham Invitational, the Brenau golf team wrapped up their two-day tournament with an overall fifth place finish and some new team records.
Morgan Wood led the pace for the Golden Tigers shooting an 80 on day two to finish with a two-day score of 156, which put her in 12th place. Sara Jane Bowers improved her day two score by 10 strokes to fire a 76 for a tie for 17th place. Brittan Slaton finished in 27th place with a two-day score of 175, while fellow freshman LaKese Brown finished two strokes back at 177, which tied her for 28th place. Olivia Davis improved her second day score to 93, which placed her in 32nd place.
The total 338 team score in round one was 20 shots better than any previous event and the day two score of 332 was a six shot improvement.
"I am so impressed with the way the team played over the last two days," said head coach Damon Stancil. "They have been working very hard during practice as well as conditioning and it definitely showed on the scoreboard at Birmingham Southern".
"The course allowed them to be aggressive at times in order to make birdies and they took advantage. That is a great sign for the future of this group and the program. BU Golf has a great group of talented players and I am extremely proud of their efforts so far this season."
The team returns to the course on October 20th and hopes to build on their strong play at the UNG/LeeAnn Noble Memorial Tournament in Dahlonega, Georgia.
