Golf Wraps Up Fall Season at NAIA Preview
The Brenau golf team capped their fall season at the NAIA Women's Preview hosted by the Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga.
In a talent-laden pool of teams, the Golden Tigers finished 16th with an overall team score of 138.
After shooting an 88 on day one, Morgan Wood rallied back on day two with a 79 to capture a tie for 39th place. Freshman Sara Jane Bowers finished in a tie for 54th place with an 82-91—173, while freshman Brittan Slaton tied for 66th place with a 93-85—178.
Freshman Olivia Davis and LaKese Brown finished 82nd and 83rd respectively to round out the scorers for the Golden Tigers.
"The NAIA Fall Preview was by far the best field we've competed against in the brief history of the program," said head coach Damon Stancil. "Morgan, SJ and Brittan played very well for 18 holes, but we need to keep working hard to put it all together for two consecutive days. Even though it wasn't our best golf, I'm very proud of the way my team continues to stay focused, pushing on and not giving up. That can be a really tough task when each day requires roughly 7 hours of continuous focus and concentration."
"We will learn from this tournament and get better, I have no doubt. It was a great way to measure where we are in relation to the top teams in the NAIA and it gave the ladies a close up look at what we need to do to win!"
Brenau concludes the fall season as the young squad hopes to use the experience gained to help prepare for the spring upcoming spring tournaments.
