Golf Finishes Eleventh at Berry Invitational
The Brenau golf team finished 11th at the Berry College Invitational at Callaway Gardens, Ga. on Friday and Saturday.
The team shot a first round 362 and a second round 360 for a total score of 722.
Sara Jane Bowers (FR/Statesboro, Ga.) finished tied for seventh place with a score of 156. The freshman shot an opening day 82, but rallied on day two with a strong 74.
Morgan Wood (SO/Dahlonega, Ga.) finished in 46th place, shooting 86-91—177, while LaKese Brown (FR/Albany, Ga.) finished tied for 58th with an 89-94—183. Brittan Slaton (FR/Cleveland, Ga.) (94-91—185) tied for 62nd, while Olivia Davis (FR/Flowery Branch, Ga.) (100-104—204) and Lauren Smith (SO/Gainesville, Ga.) (107-110-217) placed tied for 75th and 80th places respectively.
"In our second event of the spring, we simply didn't perform to our expectations," said head coach Damon Stancil. "The weather was poor on both days, but we have to find a way as a team to fight through adversity.
"Sara Jane Bowers added another top-10 finish and I'm encouraged by how well Brittan (Slaton), Lakese (Brown) and Morgan (Wood) hit the ball both days. We just have to turn good ball striking into good scores."
The team returns to the course on March 30th when they host the Golden Tigers Spring Invitational at Chicopee Woods Golf Club.
