Golf Tops Truett-McConnell
The Brenau golf team bested Truett McConnell (Ga.) College 339 to 370 in a non-conference match on Thursday at Apple Mountain Golf Course in Clarkesville, Ga.
Although weather conditions limited the match to only 18 holes, Morgan Wood (SO/Dahlonega, Ga.) managed a 20-foot putt at the end of her round to shoot a six over par round of 78 to lead the Golden Tigers. Brittan Slaton (FR/Cleveland, Ga.) notched an 84, while Sara Jane Bowers (FR/Statesboro, Ga.) finished close behind with an 85. LaKese Brown (FR/Albany, Ga.) shot a 92, while Olivia Davis (FR/Flowery Branch, Ga.) rounded out the Brenau scoring with a 98.
Ashley Blackburn led the Bears with an 18 hole score of 86.
"The team played very well yesterday, especially considering it was the first time most of our team had seen the course," said head coach Damon Stancil. "Morgan Wood posted another excellent score and chalked up another win in the rain shortened event. She, Brittan (Slaton) and Sara Jane (Bowers) played some really solid golf."
"Hopefully it gives us some momentum and puts us in a positive state of mind as we practice next week prepping for conference."
Brenau next looks to the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship on April 18th and 19th in Montgomery, Alabama.
