Golf Places Eighth At SSAC Championships
The Brenau golf team wrapped up the 2015 Southern States Athletic Conference Championships in Montgomery, Alabama in eighth place and with a team two-day total of 689.
Overall, the Golden Tigers shot seven shots higher (348) on day two than day one (341).
Morgan Wood (SO/Dahlonega, Ga.) shot a second day round of 81 to lead the Golden Tigers with a tie for 12th place overall and an overall 157.Brittan Slaton (FR/Cleveland, Ga.) (90-84-174) improved on the second day with an 84 and placed 35th overall. SSAC All-Conference selectionSara Jane Bowers (FR/Statesboro, Ga.) (86-93-179) and LaKese Brown (FR/Albany, Ga.) (89-90-179) each tied for 37th, while Olivia Davis (FR/Flowery Branch, Ga.) (94-96-190) tied for 43rd.
"I'm so proud my team and how they played at this year's conference championship," said head coach Damon Stancil. "Our 689 total was a very solid effort by the team and is a huge step in the right direction.
We've still got a lot of work to do to beat the best in the conference, but I'm confident we can get there. I look forward to seeing the ladies play in some women's amateur events this summer and the Fall 2015 season!"
Conference newcomer Dalton State (Ga.) College captured the SSAC Championship with a 599, while University of Mobile (Ala.) (620) and William Carey (Miss.) College (621) rounded out the top three.
Brenau looks ahead to the 2015-16 season as the second-year program returns all six letter winners to the team.
